After a tense moment, Caelum successfully bribes the off-duty guard, and the rest of the evening is uneventful. The next day, they shop at Modern Navy for cloaks to cover their gear. Alcia suspects something about the pocket watch, so she goes to find the antique shop where she bought it. However, she discovers the shop is gone as if it never existed.
While travelling through a food street, Caelum sees a restaurant belonging to a Dwarf friend of his, Thomas Hortin, who offers them transportation should they require it.
The adventurers then enter the Slums of Marbordo using Alcia as bait. Members of Black Cypress knock her out and lead Allen and Caelum to the hideout, an old tavern. Alcia awakens in the basement, unable to use her magical abilities but still able to hear Eva. With her in the locked cell are the kidnapped Convalli. One of them, Cora Amberbrook explains that they’d only recently escaped Convallis Valley from over the mountains with the help of Graham Outlander. He’d split off to get help in Chefurbo, the nation’s capital, while the rest tried to reach New Haven until the Black Cypress gang kidnapped them.
Allen and Caelum attempt to covertly take out the outside guards of the hideout. Things don’t go as planned, however, and the entire tavern is alerted to their presence. They surrender and find themselves in the same cell as Alcia and the Convalli.
Bucky Star, an officer in the Black Cypress organization with history to Caelum, appears and gloats over them. He mentions a financier helping them to expand and that a convoy will be coming from Convallis Valley to take everyone back there for interrogation and torture. Before leaving the adventurers, he announces he’s off to Chefurbo to assassinate the mayor of New Haven.
