Imprisoned overnight with the kidnapped Convalli in the Black Cypress hideout, our adventurers experience strange dreams. Eva drives Alcia on a horse and carriage to a lake. Caelum tries unsuccessfully to evade a toothy beast. And Allen is taunted by a fiendish voice saying he couldn’t save his parents and he won’t be able to save his friends.
Awakening the next morning, Caelum manages to retrieve an oil lamp with Alcia’s staff and fashion a lockpick to unlock the cell door. Roaming the basement, Allen with brute strength tears another locked door away from its hinges to recover their equipment and some coin. A conversation is overheard upstairs between bandits and a corrupt guard. The arrival of a caravan to take the Convalli away is eminent.
They make their way through another vent to a pantry on the main level and sneak by passed-out bandits before hijacking one of the stagecoaches outside. With the Convalli packed inside and our adventurers on top, Allen snaps the reins as the Black Cypress race to retrieve them, dead or alive.
While Allen navigates through the Slum’s debris-filled streets, Alcia and Caelum fight off the Judge-Enforcer bandits that managed to climb aboard. They race through a busy marketplace with enemy wagons in pursuit. Valkyrie bandits fire arrows and an Air Elementalist sends a blast of wind that strikes Alcia, nearly sending her under the hooves of their horses. With Cora Amberbrooks’s help, she regains her footing and causes the Elementalist’s carriage to crash in a tangle of roots. Caelum lets loose arrows into a trailing horse as Allen maneuvers through a busy intersection. One of the Valkyries accidently shoots his driver, aiding their carriage crashing into the middle of the intersection.
They reach the docks with Marbordo guards on route and connect with Caelum’s friend, Thomas Hortin. Cora and the Convalli join one of his merchant caravans that will take them the rest of the way to New Haven. Meanwhile, our adventurers join Thomas aboard a merchant ship, The Frappuccino, and sail out of Marbordo before guards can stop them.
