The Frappuccino finally arrives in Chefurbo, and our adventurers receive gifts from their crewmates before disembarking. Caelum received a charismatic captain’s hat, Allen an old flintlock pistol, and Alcia a yellow gemstone necklace of navigation (and an invitation to join the crew once their business in the city is concluded). To avoid the zero tolerance of weapons and armor, Caelum smuggles his dagger and Allen’s pistol in his hat.
Making it through port security was one thing, but getting through the inner-city wall to the Government District was another. Alcia had the easiest time of it, using her credentials as a Physician and developer of a cure for a Pantherian disease. Allen attempted to use his old military rank to get by, but the soldiers were not having any of it. Caelum, after being pelted with rutabagas by a group of school kids, attempted to scale the wall, but was quickly outed by a passerby. The soldiers left their post to investigate, giving Allen a short window to rush in. Caelum threw change on the ground to draw a crowd and attempted to get past the guards. They follow his hat, however, ultimately tackling a citizen Caelum had given it to moments before. The three enter the inner city, but at the cost of a hat, a dagger, and a pistol.
The residency of the mayor, John Kent, is found and they meet Representative Victor whose region New Haven resides in. Together they meet with the Executor of the Tasset government to plead their case. They discover, however, that Tasset has little interest in challenging their lucrative new trading partner in Convallis Valley. A Qarsh ambassador, Zalthu, appears and it’s clear the Exiles are being painted as the enemy.
As they leave, Victor is shot through by an arrow from Bucky Star upon the parapet of a massive clock tower. Victor would’ve died if not for the quick actions of Alcia. Meanwhile, Allen and Caelum race up the tower’s staircase. They see Bucky, but the Dark Knight appears and separates Allen from Caelum just as Bucky causes the tower’s massive bell to crash down the stairwell. Caelum attempts to avoid the avalanche of debris but is knocked out. Meanwhile, Allen fights the Dark Knight, managing to disarm him and uppercut his strange helmet off. What lies behind it is the pale, scarred face of a fellow Convalli. Alcia watches from outside as Bucky Star escapes from the roof on a zipline that descends across to another building.
