It’s clear to the Compass initiates that the rumors of Onryo attacking villages was not accurate. The manifestation of Onryo was the result of an attack, not its cause. The cause was the red and blue giants traveling east. Whatever they were, corruption followed in their wake.
Leaving the village, the adventurers continue east towards the Red Mountain. After several days they come across a cottage in the forest. It’s owner, Shin, was once a Morvin warrior but now disgraced and cut off from society and his family for nearly 2 years. Shin had seen the giants pass by nearly a week ago and knew what they were: Oni. Giant demons from the mountains that know only violence.
Suddenly, subterranean Omukade hatchlings attack, threatening to bury everyone. Working together, Shin’s horses are connected to his wagon and they all ride off to safety. Shin starts heading to a group of limestone hills where the forest guardian, a Tengu, resides. Hopefully he can help with the corruption.
While riding, they come across an overturned wagon and barrels of sake. As they investigate, an Oni awakens and begins to chase them down. Through a series of trips, barrel tosses, and flying over fallen trees, the wagon crashes at the base of limestone hills. Just as the Oni is about to finish them off, a winged figure crashes upon the Oni, defeating him.
