A Tengu is a winged spirit from Japanese folklore – part bird, part human – often portrayed with a long nose or break and black feathered wings. They are known as guardians of sacred mountains or forests and masters of martial arts. They’re also known to be tricksters who will test or punish arrogance.
In legend, they embody both wisdom and wrath, protecting temples and forests while humbling those who stray from discipline.
