Miles Mainsail, the mayor of Smuggler’s Bay, gave the crew of the Shore Thing a mission. They were to intercept his ship, the Pier Pressure, and retrieve its cargo: a man by the name of Timbers McGrady. Mainsail gave his “Pirate’s Word” to pay them but also to treat them as well or poorly as they did the cargo.
Before setting sail at first light, sabotage hit the Shore Thing. While repairing, another vessel called the Schooner or Later suspiciously left the harbor ahead of them. With the mast jury rigged back together the Shore Thing eventually caught up to and overtook Dreadnought Drake’s ship, the Schooner or Later, reaching the Pier Pressure first.
Aboard Mainsail’s ship, its captain is provided a letter whereupon Timbers McGrady and a guard are handed over to the Shore Thing. While journeying back to Smuggler’s Bay, McGrady revealed he was shipwrecked and marooned for months on a small island in the Bay of Aur. While there, he’d found a map drawn by Renwick Rapids. It revealed the whereabouts of Bramwell’s Buried Treasure that couldn’t all fit aboard his ship, the Crimson Squid. To save his life McGrady burned the map, but not before committing it to memory.
Upon arriving back in Smuggler’s Bay, the adventurers are ambushed by Feme Fetalis and then by mounted Agrora Raptors that didn’t appear to work with the assassins. Who sent the female assassins after them? Who sent the Agroras? And where in all the commotion did Timbers McGrady go?
