Compass agents, lead by Bonri Andrews, enter the heart of the Red Mountain (Mount Akai) to investigate the legitimacy of the Demon of Flame legend. They find signs of Red Gold before being nearly ambushed by Tsuchigumo. After dispatching them, they follow the sound of murmuring voices. They witness red-robed figures kneeling before a wall of exposed jet-black material; like a crystal window looking into a shadowy void. the leader calls out to the Drah’acon Kyoufu to accept them, and something from the other side answers.
The agents are then accosted by a Raving Drake. They all run to escape, but one by one are killed either by the Drake or other underground dangers. Only one manages to escape out onto the surface of the Red Mountain. Preparing to make for the nearest village, a robed figure catches up to the lone survivor. Before he too dies, he looks up and realizes the figure’s face is that of a Drah’acane…
… Months later, and the Compass sends a fresh group of members on their first mission to reestablish communication with Bonri. But little do they realize that this quick and easy first mission may not be as quick, nor as easy, as they expect.
