Tasset is a large mainland nation ruled by Humans along the southern edge of the Insula Sea. A country of contrasts, it possesses both great beauty across its green dales and fruit groves, and also great dangers throughout its Wetlands and Fire Hole Basin.
The nation’s governing body is called the “People’s Assembly”, consisting of hundreds of elected representatives from across the country. Despite the large number of representatives, there used to be many more. Tasset is half of a once whole nation, with the eastern side breaking away a generation ago and renaming itself Recimaa. There has been a smoldering resentment between the two countries ever since.
Governance
Tasset is ruled by the People’s Assembly; a legislative body made up of hundreds of representatives from across the nation. Assembly representatives are elected from each district every 5 years. Half of the candidates are nominated at public meetings. The other half are nominated by special interest groups such as merchant/artisan guilds and larger landowners.
The Assembly elects ministers who govern the various aspects of running a nation. They also elect their head of state called the Executor, named as such for he/she is “appointed to carry out the will of the people”.
Climate
Few parts of the nation are distant from the Southern Sea, causing the prevalent climate to be humid subtropical to true tropical in the more northern regions. The exception are those lands near the Tueri Mountains where cooler temperatures exist.
Tropical storms can roll in from the Endless Ocean and slam into the nation, some violent enough to cause wide-spread destruction that takes years to undo. Lands further interior are less effected by these storms.
Fauna
There is a variety of wildlife across Tasset. From alligators and large snakes populating the Wetlands to timber wolves and bears prowling the Dales. Pigs and sheep are domesticated and raised on farms throughout the interior.
Few fantastical monsters make themselves known, but there are rumors of strange creatures lurking within the Fire Hole Basin and giant beasts that make the Dead End Valley their home.
Flora
Coconut palms and mangroves extend along the coastlines with orange and sugarcane farms covering the Sweet Plains in the northwest. Most of Tasset’s interior has grassy plains dotted with large forests and farmland.
Geology
Tasset can has 6 distinct regions: the Sweet Plains, Dead End Valley, the Wetlands, Fire Hole Basin, the Dales, and Drah’acon Tail Coast.
Sweet Plains
An area of farmlands that primarily produce oranges and sugarcane. Hence the term “Sweet” Plains.
Dead End Valley
A secluded region nestled in a horseshoe-shaped chain of mountains. Said to be beautiful but deadly and far from civilization. Possesses a cooler climate and rumored to house creatures that are larger-than-life.
Wetlands
Mostly flooded by slow-moving water that eventually reaches the coast. This large swamp region is home to some of the more deadly beasts of Tasset including alligators and large snakes.
Fire Hole Basin
A mostly unsettled and dangerous area of land filled with hot springs, geysers, mudpots, travertine terraces, and fumaroles. Some hot springs are rumored to have therapeutic qualities, but the risks in reaching them may outweigh any potential medical treatment they could provide.
The Dales
The central region of Tasset, extending from the interior to the main coastline. Possesses the majority of the nation’s population and trading routes.
Drah‘acon Tail Coast
A small rocky, inhospitable area of coastline separating Tasset from Recimaa. A single primary road travels through it, at times narrowing to a cliff’s edge where rockslides pose a serious concern.
