Delving into the depths of the earth, our adventurers explore the Temple of Tenebris. So many and so horrific were the deeds done in the place, that even after untold centuries the presence of hatred, selfishness, callousness, and cruelty remain. Dark Spirits representing each of these lingered in the darkness and accosted the players as they searched for keys to unlock a massive door to the Altar of Sacrifice.
While doing so, they came across two miners who didn’t flee when the temple wall was broken through. One was so taken over with fear and torment from the Dark Spirits that he had become irrevocably insane. The other had let herself be so tortured and taken over by the spirits that she’d gave up her body and will to be possessed by them. Both were mere echoes of what normally transpired in the temple during its heyday.
Solving puzzles and opening the great door, the adventurers come to the Altar of Sacrifice where a massive statue of Tenebris stands. A dreadful voice speaks, saying, “You cannot hide… I see you”, before the reanimated remains of the High Priests attack. They are defeated, with one being thrown into a great pit where the bones of those killed by the priests drag it down into unknown depths.
The adventurers retrieve a large book from the altar before the temple begins to shake. They leave and return to the surface in time. But, unbeknownst to them their actions were seen and a Dark Knight of Tenebris has been dispatched to hunt them down.
