Bacu is the largest island within the Insula Sea. It’s renowned for its black and white sandy beaches, idyllic waterfalls, and beautiful mountain ranges.
Warlords rule the various regions across Bacu. In the past, an Overlord would be a leader to govern and direct the entire island. Currently, however, the nation doesn’t have one and is embroiled with infighting amongst the regional Warlords.
The Bacuns are a stoic people rooted with an ancient system of traditions and honor, not accustomed to being expressive or emotive in public. Self-sufficiency is considered an admirable trait that conveys strength. The practice of gift giving is not exercised and in fact often seen as disrespectful. All are expected to earn what they seek, and simply being given it insinuates lack of ability or disappointment. They are a direct and abrupt people that don’t mince words, and can seem to outsiders as insensitive or lacking empathy.
Governance
Though the number has fluctuated throughout its history, Bacu is currently divided into 14 provinces, each ruled by a Warlord (except Kuroi). The Warlords govern their territory with autonomy, answering only to the Overlord. When an Overlord abdicates or dies, a new one is elected from amongst the Warlords. Upon election, they retire from their province’s responsibilities and govern the entire island nation from its capital, Shihon.
The Overlord rules with complete authority, however are bound by the written “Tenets” that every Overlord swears obedience to.
Climate
Bacu is a tropical island warm year-round, consisting of a rainy and dry season.
Fauna
There are a multitude of birds, bats, and small lizards populating the island and only a few natural predators dangerous to humanoids. These dangers include the crocodile and boa snake. There are other imported threats, though, that over the course of years have established themselves on the island.
Flora
The island nation boasts a rich diversity of flora with thousands of different plants and trees. Some of the more popular ones are orchids, palm trees, and cherry blossoms.
Geology
Bacu is a large island spanning over 600 miles long. It’s currently divided into 14 provinces: Kuroi, Sekkaigan, Ran, Hira, Taki, Shiroi, Numa, Ushi, Biru, Satouji, Kirai, Houseki, Kazan, and Jumoku.
- Kuroi. An island separated from the rest of Bacu said to have a vast cave complex, pine forest, and black sandy beaches from volcanic activity. It is a mysterious place with a history of strange lightning activity atop Watcher’s Peak. No Warlord manages the island. Instead it’s given to the Overlord, though visits to the island are rare. Most stay away from Kuroi, save for a small settlement consisting mostly of local fishermen.
- Sekkaigan. Contains the Neru mountain range which includes the legendary Mount Akai. It’s also home to iconic limestone hills and tobacco farms in the lowlands.
- Ran. Contains Bacu’s capital city, Shihon. The surrounding land is filled with coffee plantations and orchid fields.
- Hira. Flatlands containing sugarcane crops and the Ookii Marshes: Bacu’s largest wetland.
- Taki. Known for beautiful waterfalls and underwater caves.
- Shiroi. A beautify province with fine-white sandy beaches along most of its coastline. However, further inward is the ominous green Akuma Mountains, said to house deadly supernatural creatures.
- Numa. A difficult land to traverse with its wetlands in the north and Akuma Mountains in the south.
- Ushi. Home to large lakes (rare in Bacu), pineapple fields, and cattle ranching.
- Biru. Filled with grazing pastures and one of the few provinces with breweries.
- Satouji. Contains both mountainous regions as well as mashes and mangroves.
- Kirai. Known for its mining activity.
- Houseki. Gold and silver are frequently found and mined here.
- Kazan. Its food production includes bananas and cocoa.
- Jumoku. Mountains divide the province’s climate, including both rainforest and arid landscapes. Many Bacuans make the pilgrimage to the summit of Land’s End, Bacu’s westernmost mountain, to enjoy the view from its high peak.
